Tobey Maguire uses Spidey Skills to beat Matt Damon and others in poker 06.22.11 at 11:48 am ET

“Spider-Man” actor Tobey Maguire apparently used his Spidey Skills to fleece members of a Los Angeles-area secret poker society that included Boston natives Matt Damon and Ben Affleck for “as much as $1 million a month over a period of three years,” according to a report by Star Magazine.

Unfortunately for Maguire, Beverly Hills hedge fund embezzler and Ponzi schemer Brad Ruderman – who blew $25 million in the bi-weekly games – played the role of Green Goblin to his Spider-Man. Here’s the breakdown from Star Magazine:

Now, as Ruderman sits in a Texas jail until 2018, convicted on two counts of wire fraud and two counts of investment adviser fraud, lawyers for the clients whose funds he embezzled are filing a series of civil suits against those who won big in the illegal poker dens, in the hope of recouping some of their lost savings.

According to the magazine, expected to be included in separate lawsuits, are: “Welcome Back, Kotter” star Gabe Kaplan, Paris Hilton‘s sex tape partner Rick Saloman, C-Note Records owner Cody Leibel, Las Vegas nightclub owner Andrew Sasson and billionaire Alec Gores.

Damon, Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio also at times reportedly anted up the $100,000 required to play in these games but are not named in any lawsuit. The best part about this whole story might be the magazine’s anonymous source, who said of DiCaprio, “In truth, Leo is a tight ass. When he lost $50,000 the look in his eyes was obvious he was crazy.” I don’t know about you, but I’d be pretty pissed if I lost $50,000, too, even if like DiCaprio I had an estimated $200 million.

The Star source also claimed Damon “never won.” Has he not seen “Rounders”? He owned Teddy KGB.

“You can’t lose what you don’t put in the middle. But you can’t win much either.”
