Since we last spoke…….
The Pats lost to Steelers and severely hurt their playoff chances
The Patriots are in big trouble in regard to their playoff chances. The only thing that saved them was the Jets losing. The Colts are a lock for the 1st Wild Card but the Ravens have a tough end of the season schedule and it will most likely come down to week 17 to see if the Pats can return to the Playoffs. What are the chances Matt Cassel starts his first playoff game this January? I’d say 40%.
Celtics continued their dominance
The Celtics have not missed a beat since dumping Gatorade on Doc Rivers in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. Rajon Rondo has taken another step toward All-Star status and Paul Pierce is approaching Larry Bird level play. The bench has been inconsistent at times and that will be the only thing that prevents a rematch against the Lakers this summer.
Bruins became the best team in the NHL
I am not a hockey guy. That is Chach’s role. But the Bruins are winning games and fights every night. The city is ready to buy into this team but I caution Bill from New Hampshire and the rest of Bruins Nation to be careful because it is December 1st and these are still the Bruins. If they are the best team in hockey on February 1st then we can start to plan the parade and like the great folks at Barstool Sports say, “cue the duckboats.”
BC did what Meter said they would do — make the ACC Championship Game
Meter was right and we were all wrong. The Eagles defense is a top 5 defense and their freshman running backs are legit. Bob Ryan wrote a great column Sundayabout the 3 starting LB’s. Mark Hurzlich is a first round pick, one that would fit perfectly next to Jarod Mayo. Mike McLaughlin made the defensive play of the week when he leap-frogged the blocking back and sacked Chris Turner. Oh, and Robert Francois was named national defensive player of the week. The Eagles are better off with Dom Davis at QB, he is a threat to run and won’t turn the ball over like Chris Crane. The Eagles are going to win Saturday and they will be playing in the Orange Bowl January 1st.
The worst day of Thanksgiving football in history
We were forced to watch 3 terrible NFL games plus Texas’ beat down of Texas A&M after Thanksgiving dinner. I have the solution. The Super Bowl Champion and Super Bowl runner up should host the 1p and 4p games on Thanksgiving. The 8p game can be rotated but we need to make sure we have a big name team playing on this holiday. It is a day the league can showcase it’s greatness and you can’t do it with the Lions getting blown out every year.
Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis sealed their fate
Notre Dame has to fire Weis and the Browns need to cut ties with Romeo. Charlie has failed to recruit any talent to South Bend and he has upset a lot of alumni and boosters with his arrogance and abrasiveness. If he was winning BCS games every year it would be one thing, but he is not, and going 6-6 while losing to Syracuse is grounds for dismissal for any Irish coach. Don’t be surprised if Notre Dame makes a godfather offer to Urban Myer to come save what is left of the once proud program.
