Right now it’s tough to comprehend Brady with the likes of Bird, Yaz, and Orr, but 10-15 years from now, he will be number 1 for sure.
I would love to ask the same question about Boston’s favorite head coaches too… Bill Belichick, Terry Francona, Red Auerbach, Jerry York, etc?

Yaz brought the game of baseball back to Boston after decades of having a almost empty Fenway Park. Baseball became relevant again after the greatest clutch performance for one season – hitting and fielding, one that we have not seen since including the steriod pumped up players of the last 20 years. Plus, Yaz’ endless work with the Jimmy Fund has always gone under the radar.

What about Paul Pierce… Stood by the celtics through thick and thin. Always played his heart out. And never ever dissappointed the fans, or wore UGGS. Paul Pirece is BOSTON!!

Enjoy watching Brady, deserves the respect and praise he receives, but Bobby Orr will always be my much admired and loved all time choice for Boston Athlete. He had a short career due to his knees, but I believe he would have had an even more amazing career if he remained healthy. Watching him was mesmerizing and I haven’t found hockey fascinating since he stopped playing. He also was a person that I felt had integrity and other qualities to admire off the field. He was very special.

What about Ray Bourque, Steve Grogan, Carlton Fisk, Bill Russell, John Havlicek?

Bird was the man! He did it all for 82 regular season games a year, plus the playoffs. He helped turn the Celtic team around from one of the worst teams, at the time, to one of the best teams. He could do everything in the game, at the highest level as in, shooting, passing, rebounding, and defending, as well as anyone else in the league. He was always a step ahead of everyone else on the court, making everyone else he was playing with that much better. He anticipated and put himself in the best position to be effective. He outsmarted the opponent, and attacked there weakness. There was no doubt that when Larry Bird had the ball in the closing seconds of a close game, and the Celtics needed a basket, he would get it done. There was none better!!!

I’m going with Bird !! He saved the NBA along with Majic. The frenzy over him started before he played a game here !! I remember being at a bowling alley with about 100 people gatherd around a small B/W TV watching him in the Final Four.. The crowd at the alley broke out with LARRY LARRY !! We knew he was special !!

Larry Bird CAN NEVER touch Bobby Orr as most beloved Boston sports athlete. Bird is probably the cheapest ex Boston great and WOULD NEVER do the things Orr has done for Boston area charities.Bobby has probably signed 25,000 pictures of “the goal” and would never charge anyone for his signature. Can you say that of Bird ??

Wow, I was a kid when Orr hit the ice but i knew enough then that he was something special by all the people around me growing up loving Bruins hockey and as i grew up after he retired i learned more about how truly special he still is. However, I remember when Bird came here, I never cared about hoop at all. I remember his “legendary” play like it was yesterday. Brady isn’t done yet. Flutie, just awesome! Yaz, Yes!
1. Orr
2. Larry
3. Brady
4. Yaz
5. Flutie
6. Dave Roberts stealing second base in 04′

Not a single African-American on the list? Really?
Not Russell, Rice, Max, Pierce, Ortiz, or KC? Not even a mention?
Really, really?
