| D&C hourly recap: Monday, 8 a.m. | 07.19.10 at 8:11 am ET |
Hour 2 began with golf expert Brad Faxon. John Dennis asked about the dullness of the British Open, and how the sport does not have a leading figure right now, exacerbated by the mediocre play of Tiger Woods.
They further discussed Woods and his legacy, what Jack Nicklaus thinks of Tiger and his struggles, and if Woods can win the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in August.
Said Faxon: “I don’t see an end for him yet. … He’s got some work to do.”
Halfway through the hour, the guys brought up Don Banks’ column on SI.com, mentioning highlights of the piece, extracting that most of it revolved around quarterbacks and their impact on the league.
Talking about Wes Welker, Banks says in the article that the Patriots receiver could play in the opening game of the season in September. The guys talked about the “eerie sense of calm” the fan base always has felt with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady at the helm, but how this year could be challenging for the Patriots. They also brought up Logan Mankins and the contract issues he is dealing with.
Caller of the Hour: Steve from Worcester called in to say he was “glued to the TV” for the British Open, explaining that watching a new face come in and grab his attention was good for the game of golf.
Quote of the Hour: “There’s no reason for renewed optimism.” — Gerry Callahan, on the Patriots’ prospects for the upcoming season
