| D&C hourly recap: Monday, 10 a.m. | 07.19.10 at 10:05 am ET |
The final hour of Monday’s Dennis & Callahan show began with some more discussion of the British Open, with the guys lamenting that the game of golf needs Tiger Woods playing at his highest level. They predicted that the TV ratings for the most recent major tournament will be historically low.
Because Tiger was considered the best in almost every category, including appearance and physical prowess, the guys talked about how difficult it will be for him to cope with being looked down upon.
To end the show, the guys discussed Rachel Uchitel‘s upcoming appearance on VH1′s “Celebrity Rehab” with Dr. Drew, the oft-discussed Mel Gibson controversy, as well as Paul Pierce‘s oceanfront wedding over the weekend.
The buzzer beaters began with Meterparel mentioning Mike Lowell‘s plight with the Red Sox, citing a recent Gordon Ede’s ESPN.com article. Gerry brought up Fox baseball broadcaster Tim McCarver‘s controversial critique of the Yankees’ treatment of former coach Joe Torre.
Caller of the Hour: Carey in Rhode Island called in to discuss the Jack Nicklaus vs. Woods debate. He mentioned that the competition Tiger has faced in his career pales in comparison with that of Nicklaus. The guys concluded that Tiger may have much more to deal with in terms of the quantity of players, but the quality was higher in Nicklaus’ day.
Quote of the Hour: “If you’re a fan of golf, it’s not good news.” — Gerry Callahan on unheralded South African Louis Oosthuizen winning the British Open on Sunday
