Okay, so all these producer types want to be like me, yeah right. Seems like I was just sitting at the picnic table with Rob Bradford (WEEI.com stud) asking how to spell Quiznos! Anyway, after taking care of my daughter, thank you to the people at Children’s hospital, I am gonna jump into the “new” WEEI.com with both feet!

For those who pay attention to the D and C show, you know that, I usually travel with Boston College and engineer and produce the games. I missed this weeks game, due to above matter, but did watch the game, and listened to my boys Meter and Cronin and it got me thinking a bit! RYAN v CRANE, its not Brady v. Bledsoe but hey lets jump on in and steal some stuff from the boys behind the glass!

Since Iggy and I are college football fans I thought I’d compare Crane’s debut with Ryan’s debut. Now I know Matt played more before the Clemson game, but I’m gonna use that as his jumping off point! So this is where I will steal from my boy Berger!

Matt Ryan

Ryan’s first official start, I’ll call it, came against Clemson in Death Valley. Now I know the atmosphere is a bit different than it was in Cleveland (Browns Stadium), and trust me, in 2005 at Clemson where there where 79,000 Orange shirts around, there was no underestimating the 12th man, Ryan had a good day, and here are a look at his numbers. 24 of 42 for 57.1% for 221 yard no TD’s and 2 picks for a 91.8 rating. Now I know Matt played a ton the year before (2004 v Syracuse 24-51 for 47.1% 200 yards and had 1 TD and 3 picks for a 74.7 rating) but lets be honest, the Clemson game is a huge wake up call for any kid. If you haven’t been to Clemson this is a trip that any college football fan needs to take. Hell, I guess you could say Ryan and Chach came up together, this was my first away trip with the team as well, and what a rush it was! The game was at noon, I remember walking in with Meter and Parker at 8am and there were people there tailgating, this wouldn’t happen at the Heights!

Fast forward to Saturday night, Crane is your Eagles starter versus the mighty Golden Flashes of Kent State,cue up OHIO by C, S N and Y, and no Dino wasn’t at his old Frat house pulling a Hank the Tank from Old School. His numbers weren’t bad, he wasn’t asked to win in OT like Ryan was, but its the season opener and he has to win over his teammates. Here is what Crane did, he was 12-18 for 66.7% 106 yards 0 tds and 0 picks and 2 rushing TD’s. Crane did what the coaches wanted him to do, he managed the game and didn’t turn the ball over. But the bigger accomplishment was he showed his teammates he could lead his team to the end zone, and all the while winning over their confidence. Now he didn’t make them forget about former number 12, but he did make them take note the number 10 was one that can and will lead the team with confidence. He might not be the number 3 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, or hell the 230th pick in the 7th round (see Matt Cassel) but he can lead the BC eagles to some big victories this season.

Now once I do get back on the road, I will be updating you all on how many beers it takes before Meterparel starts puking, and a gameday blog which I will get up on Sunday mornings, if the charter isn’t to late getting in!
